This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom is comprised of eager and curious diverse learners. The students within my classroom have a variety of challenges that can make functioning during the school day very stressful and overwhelming for them.

I currently teach a unique group of diverse learners ranging in grade levels from Kindergarten through Third Grade.

All of my students come into our classroom with diverse needs i.e. academic, social-emotional, behavioral, etc. My students live within a poverty stricken area and don't always have the most up-to date materials, access different educational opportunities or even items to help them cope with their emotions as the students in our surrounding communities may have. Their struggles to learn are great, but their spirits are high. They are challenged most with learning appropriate behaviors, managing & expressing their emotions and maintaining healthy relationships. They always put forth their best efforts, even when working with the most outdated, hand-me-down, make shift items.

My Project

My students will use the various sensory stimulating items I have requested in many ways. Throughout the school day my students need sensory breaks to help alleviate built up anxiety, stress, anger, etc. Often times if the sensory needs of my students are not met, the built up emotions will take over and they will experience an outburst which can effect them for the remainder of their school day. The stability balls will be used in place of 'regular' classroom chairs when sitting at our tables. During instructional times my students often need to wiggle and move around in order to stay focused, these balls will help them do that without causing a disruption to their learning. The trampoline will give them an outlet to jump appropriately and the hand fidgets will allow them to monitor & support themselves independently. Lastly, the book I have requested will aide me in providing activities during the day to meet their needs that goes beyond the items within our classroom.

Donations towards this project will help & support my students by aiding in the way of decreasing anxiety, stress, anger, etc.

Then, making it 'easier' for my students to learn and function throughout the day. These items will also help my students gain independence and allow them to self advocate and manage their emotions before reaching an outburst level. These items will also support my classroom as a whole by supporting our various emotional/behavioral challenges that arise at any given time
