I teach English IV which includes literature, writing, technology, and reading in a small rural school. In senior English, I have to try and prepare them for the real world.
Everyone thinks all teens have computers at home, but that isn't the case with my kids. Most do not have computers and when the time comes to save research papers, where do kids save their work if they do not have a home computer? They end up saving to a friend's flash drive or worse, to the desktop in the computer lab! It has happened so many times before...the work ends up being deleted by someone!
My students need flash drives to be able to work after school at the local library or at a friend's house. Often I work after school, but if they do not have a flash drive the students are not able to open their saved work on one of the class computers.
The senior year is the last chance for many of my students to succeed in high school. They need the technology to be able to compete in the workplace or do well in college. By helping these young people with something as simple as a flash drive, YOU will be helping them be prepared for the real world.
