This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title 1 school. Our school has been fortunate enough to start a journalism class as an elective. The class is responsible for gathering information, interviewing, and writing articles for the monthly school newsletter. We also maintain a school blog.
My journalism class consists of 7th and 8th grade students.
The students are incredibly motivated and hardworking. Most of these students had never written an article and did not know much about publications. However, they jumped right into it and were eager to learn. They are extremely responsible and have received many positive comments from the staff.
My Project
My journalism students are extremely motivated in school. They hear about college all the time, but most of them don't know what the college experience is really like. They also don't really know the amazing opportunities that await them in college.
This ASU college trip would get them excited about their futures.
The ASU Journalism School will help them stay motivated and focused on their academics. Our students live so close to ASU, but most of them have never been there. They would appreciate this opportunity so much after how hard they have been working in school.
I have been fortunate enough to take a journalism class to ASU and it was incredible experience for the students. I would love to give this opportunity to my students again this year.
