Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Because of language barriers and lack of basic understanding of historical events, this movie will provide them with background meaning to what we are learning in class.

Majority of my students are from Latin America and struggle to learn American History through text.

History is a concept that is foreign to them as they lack basic understanding of the Civil Rights Movement here in American. At this school many of my students receive free meals based on a poverty rate of 97%. Violence in the community is common. Parents of these children work two jobs to maintain basic necessities for their families and are unable to take them to see this movie.

My Project

Attending this movie at Ford City will allow my students ample opportunities to see a movie based on what we are reading and studying in class. Selma will provide the background knowledge my students need to read and understand complex reading material. After returning from the movie, my students and I will discuss the movie and tie it directly to what we are reading.

My students enjoy my stories of the lunch counter sit ins and demonstrations during the 1960s.

However, it is my belief that my students will gain additional knowledge from this movies as they watch and share their thoughts and misconceptions of American History.
