My Project

Junior high students are wonderful, goofy, filled with amazing ideas, and growing into young adults. Until their basic needs are met though, and they know you care, they won't listen or pay attention to a word you have to teach them.

My mission is all about supporting students, building relationships, and creating community.

I would like to provide a self serve “Self-Care Station” in my classroom where students can quickly grab what they need without asking permission and without potential embarrassment, which is so important, especially at the junior high age.

In this station, my students will have access to items that Jr. High students might commonly need, but don’t always have on hand or want to ask for. Lotion, breath strips, mints, deodorant, menstruation supplies, hair ties, lint roller, and clothing stain remover wipes.

While the nurse often provides many of these supplies, our school is huge and access to her office is sometimes limited. My classroom is in a central location and perfect for students to pop by and access to what they need.

Self-care, of course, means so much more than putting on lotion or eating a mint, but these small perks can help a student feel comfortable and welcome at school.

Students of all ages need to feel connected, welcomed, and cared for at school. One small way I hope to support students is by providing personal care items in a private, embarrassment-free way.

Adding a self-care station to my classroom supports my mission: building relationships in a positive, new way. I hope that by letting students know they can stop in to get what they need, personally and academically it will help build strong, trusting relationships within my classroom and the school community.
