This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are just beginning their lifelong learning adventure when they enter my classroom. Some have experienced a PreK setting and some have not. These students, at 5 and 6 years old, are learning the skills needed to become successful in their future. About a third of our school qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. The skills they learn in my classroom will build the foundation they need to succeed in various parts of their lives. Self regulation and social learning are a large part of the early childhood classroom and an area I focus on. These students are bright, inquisitive, caring and growing everyday.

My Project

The books and learning materials included in this project will help my students understand the world around them and help them understand themselves. With a focus on diversity, self regulation, kindness and understanding; these tools will help them even as they grow older. Reading stories about being kind to others and creating meaningful social emotional lessons around them will help my students grow into caring adolescents and adults.

Social Emotional skills and learning are a large part of the early childhood classroom.

We put a lot of focus on good choices, being kind, respect, learning how to calm, working together and what to do when we get upset. We teach that emotions are not bad, and children have to learn what to do with them when they happen.

These materials will help me to teach more about life skills, they will help me create a better safe place in my classroom for the children to utilize when their emotions are too big to manage. The life skills attainable with resources like these are immeasurable. The prompts and writing points, discussions to be had, will help guide my students in decision making and conflict resolution.
