This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Last year was the first year that I used the social emotional platform called Move This World. It was truly incredible to see the students who are only seven and eight years old, embrace the curriculum and learn to self-regulate. Since the platform was solely online, this year it is essential that I incorporate classroom visuals and a calming self-regulation station within the classroom. As a third grade classroom with 36 total students, I use the move this world curriculum daily. We have a short video lesson to start the day that is 3 to 5 minutes, and we engage in a classroom circle to discuss how to practically incorporate the strategies into our daily routine. These strategies include breathing techniques, walking away from a problem, and other self-regulation techniques.

However, I need to have within the classroom a clear bulletin board and a designated space for these techniques so students can refer to them during the school day.

Last year, since the program was solely online, I had to verbally remind the students daily of their strategies and remind them to use the techniques they had learned. This calming corner, self-regulation station, and bulletin board will be up from the first day of school, and it will allow students access to visual reminders and cues to help them self-regulate during the school day as needed. They need to become more socially and emotionally in tune with themselves, their peers, and the outside world. I cannot wait to send you the student thank yous showing how they have incorporated this bulletin board and calming corner self-regulation station into their daily activities. You will also receive many thank you notes from students for providing this special in-class opportunity for them to self-regulate.
