My students need structure and the tools like a behavior management pocket chart, timer, Root Vue farm set, pencils and more, to reinforce exceptional behavior.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are wonderful young enthusiastic future world changers. While they may live in a community with challenges they strive to improve themselves through hard work and optimistic outlooks. The school community is a diverse neighborhood in Philadelphia with wonderful families. Sadly the area as been hit by opioid addiction and economic hardship. Many of my students rely on our school for both warm meals and a safe place to simply be a child. I want our classroom to go from a drab square to a warm welcoming safe place overflowing with educational opportunity.
My Project
I want my students to work collaboratively with one another, but sometimes they are so excited they forget to display self-control. The students in my classroom need the tools to reinforce the school-wide expectations of what an Elkin student is. Behavioral charts and attendance monitors will help students know what their contributions to the classroom environment have been and what they should do going forward. The use of buzzers and noise trackers will help insure students are not interrupting others by speaking out of turn.
Students will learn they don't have to shout to be heard.
Many of my students struggle to be heard by their peers, parents, and society. I want to give them the tools to have discussions rather than arguments. I want to support their social growth by teaching the norms for communicating with others. This is practically important because more then half of my students are first generation Americans who spend a great deal of time observing the actions of their peers. These material will make a tremendous impact on what my class can accomplish academically once positive behavioral norms are establish and maintained.
