My Project

First graders have BIG emotions!

A cozy corner can make a meaningful difference in students’ learning by addressing their emotional needs, which directly impact their ability to focus, engage, and succeed in the classroom.

The goal of this cozy corner is to help students recognize and manage their emotions in a safe, constructive manner and to encourage students to take responsibility for their own behavior by using the space when they need a break.

My students are special because they feel deeply. Whether it’s joy, frustration, excitement, or anxiety, their emotions are real and powerful. They are learning how to express themselves. Sometimes they have the words—and sometimes they need help finding them. They’re wonderfully different. Each child learns, thinks, and reacts in their own way. They’re still developing self-regulation skills. It takes time and practice to understand and manage big feelings. They’re full of potential. With the right support, they can grow into thoughtful, confident individuals.
