Help me give my students a space that is regulating and calming. I can develop regulation strategy lessons for both books for groups. Fidget toys can help children who need extra support to focus in class.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in an Elementary school where the many of the students have experienced trauma or been involved in the foster care system. We also have a brand new specialized Autism program. The students can really benefit from sensory input to help their systems regulate throughout their school day. Due to this year starting out virtually and with students really struggling with academics we are happy to have them on campus. They need a place where they feel safe and supported.
Our students are excited to be on campus and seek out the healthy relationships with peers and staff.
Many students struggle with healthy expression of feelings and self regulation skills. I have had some students express their gratitude of having a place to go to take a break.
My Project
Fidget toys will assist students who have inattention or hyperactivity concerns in the classroom. Sensory tools to help my office become a calming, regulating, safe place for students to come if they need a break or need to talk.
Self regulation books will be very helpful for all students to recognize how their body feels and how to help their bodies regulate so they can utilize their brains at full capacity while in class.
I will develop lesson plans to assist implementation of the content in the books across campus.
