Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This specific project will allow my students to safely come into the social worker's office space to learn, cope, engage, and utilize calming strategies and tools to help them regulate their emotions. I'm asking for inspiring and creative curriculum, sensory items/tools, mindfulness puzzles, and games to give children concrete opportunities to self-regulate when they are dealing with dysregulated emotions. These materials will provide my elementary students tangible materials to assist them in coping with difficult feelings. The calming center will consist of these resources for a relaxing and comfortable setting where students can manipulate these items as they practice the skills that we are working on in the social work setting. I meet with a variety of different students, and in my social emotional district program every student comes in with many different disabilities. Most student’s struggle to engage or talk without a self regulation tool or item.
