My Students

My students are eager to learn, but they need new and engaging techniques of instruction to be successful in the classroom today. They want innovative methods and deserve the best teacher possible.

I have been teaching for the last ten years.

I started out at a small charter school that focused on the arts. There I honed my classroom management and teaching skills while being the only teacher of English and social studies for grades 7-12. I then moved to a low-income public school where I taught English and social studies to students in grades 7-10 for five years. I also ran the school's drama department. I was laid off due to budget cuts, and, as a result, found the perfect-fit school for me. I currently teach juniors and seniors in English, psychology, government, and economics.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting will provide me with the tools that I need to begin the process of National Board Certification. I don't have a camera on which to take and view the videos that are required for this national certification. I want to earn this certification in English at the high school level. I will begin with Component One of this certification, which is creating a portfolio of grade-level and content knowledge. These items will need to be created and submitted electronically. I am also requesting a text on how to use this camera and ancillary materials for the camera to make it easy to use and to keep it safe.

These items will allow me to be a more reflective teacher because I will be able to see myself in action.

I also hope to share the information and realizations from this project with other teachers in my district. I would hope this certification would spread in my district after I work through it. My goal would be to share this learning with other teachers, so many students can benefit from these products.
