My Students

I am a special education teacher in Utah. I work with the K-6 grades in a K-9 school. My students struggle with reading, thus making every subject difficult. It's hard for them to be enthusiastic about school when they cannot participate at the level their peers do.

We are a K-9 public charter school in Utah.

We are Title I school with over 40% of our students on free and/or reduced lunches. We score regularly in the top 10 to top 20 state wide on standardized testings. 41% of my students in Special Education are female which is higher than the national average. We strive to be the best, and the students I work with are no different, hard working and motivated. When they succeed, they work even harder.

My Project

I want iPod touches for my students. The younger grades in our school have been using iPod touches to record their oral reading and then play it back to listen. Studies have shown that this helps students improve their reading skills. We have seen improvements, and now I want to help my kids progress using the technology.

Reading is an integral part of society.

Any job you want, anything you do, will require some form of reading. My goal is to best prepare my students for life, and reading is a keystone to that preparation. I also want them to experience the thrill of success. They are smart; they just require more practice.
