This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very special kindergarteners in a high-needs area of a borough in New York. Many of my students are English language learners and children with special needs. Each student is unique in his or her own way and deserves to have the best educational experience possible. All of my students receive free lunch and come to school every day eager to learn.
Unfortunately, my classroom does not always have the supplies we need.
Every donation makes a difference in my students' lives. I look forward to creating projects that will make our classroom a joyful learning environment. Thank you!
My Project
By donating to my project, you will not only help to decrease anxiety and stress for my students, but you will also be helping my students increase student academic achievement. This year has been tough with us being face to face all year trying to close the gap caused by the sudden closing of schools last year, the ongoing pandemic, and the lasting unknowns it has caused. All of this has caused the need for social-emotional resources now more than ever. With these requested sensory items, when students are upset, anxious, or are fidgety, they will be able to take a break in the sensory area in their classroom. They will also have a small book that will give them suggestions on which sensory tool(s) will best fit their current mood and how to use that sensory tool. These tools will empower my students to learn how to control their own feelings in a much healthier way.
There is currently not a sensory area in many classrooms, so these tools will help us begin creating these areas in many of our classrooms.
All of the items that I have requested will be used to create sensory areas in the rest of our classrooms. My goal is to teach my students how to find the best way to cope with their feelings and use the social-emotional resources they have available to them.
