Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
On certain days of the week, we will open our classroom with a 4 player friendly interactive competitive game. “Just Dance” (where students get to competitively dance against each other), “Mario Party” and or ‘Mario Kart” where students play a race or a board game against each other. Four students a day will get to participate and the winner will get a special privilege (preferred seating in the reading area). The idea is to decrease tardies and create a fun, safe environment for all my students to build respect and relationships with each other, in order to work more effectively with each other during other curriculum based activities. Some students do not like interacting with others who are not their friends. This creates a safe fun activity to help students want to interact with those students they normally wouldn’t. Students will be drawn by stick at random, with everyone getting an equitable chance to play once before a second name can be drawn. Being tardy will exclude a student from that day's drawing. Currently will be Mondays and Fridays SEL activity, to start the week on a positive note and end it with a fun note. They can earn more days of the SEL activity during the week as the quarter progresses. Change the negative prejudices of walking into “Math Class” Most walk into math class dreading math curriculum. This will help change the perception that Math Class is boring. Create a friendly competitive environment where students are comfortable interacting with other students they normally wouldn’t talk to. It will help students build relationships and start new friendships with students they may not normally interact with. It will create a positive environment where students feel safe to have fun. While also decreasing tardies by creating a fun reason to be on time for.
