Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Social-emotional learning occurs in the classroom in the whole group setting, but also outside of the classroom in one-on-one or small group settings with the school psychologist. The TPT gift card and the items I have selected for this project aim to teach students to recognize emotions in themselves and in others; teach students a variety of coping strategies; provide students with visual supports for time management and feelings; share stories to help students learn about different scenarios, emotions, feelings, and solutions; and ensure that learning is fun and engaging for my elementary school students.
Students benefit from and crave a safe and welcoming space to talk or regulate their emotions by the time they reach my office.
Some tools I've selected for my project include: SEL hands-on games, SEL cards with feelings faces and scenarios, multiple books to promote bibliotherapy and learning through a character's experience to alleviate only talking about a personal problem first if the student is not ready, a visual timer to support with transitions, posters to teach about feelings and coping strategies, and funding to purchase additional counseling lessons through resources created on Teacher Pay Teachers.
