SEL Classroom Reset

My Project

As a third grade teacher, I have seen the long lasting impacts that Covid has had on our keiki’s academics as well as social abilities. Having to social distance and not be able to have those crucial interactions directly with their peers and teachers has made it difficult for students to cope with emotions and to solve conflicts efficiently amongst their peers. I work hard to incorporate SEL lessons almost every day to teach them about regulating their behaviors and motions to help them feel calm, joyful, and ready to learn in my classroom. These students do require consistent reinforcements and praise for their positive behaviors and social interactions with one another so that it becomes a norm for them to know how to solve conflicts independently.

This project will offer hands-on manipulative, positive behavior incentives, and a calm seating area for my students and I to have class and small group meetings that will allow us to meet and discuss academics and social emotional topics.
