My Students

Cleveland Metro Schools has the unfortunate distinction of being the poorest school district in the country. The traumatic effects this has on our children are devastating; our children struggle to get their basic needs met, and as such have a much harder time focusing on academics and future goal development. Despite this, our students want a better life and are receptive to all adults in their lives who care about them and try to assist them in getting there. I primarily work with special needs students, who have the highest level of need among our population. Our students are super appreciative, and the smallest things make the biggest difference to them.

My Project

Please help contribute to our SEL book library! Each week, my intern and I read books to the Kindergarten classes in our school to promote SEL skills, such as empathy, acceptance, emotional regulation, and appreciation of diversity. My students are mostly children of color, who come from homes that need as much help as they can get. My students are working so hard to overcome the side effects of poverty, nearby crime, loss, and lack of social opportunities. Please help them learn vital social-emotional skills so that they can become successful, happy adults!
