SEL Begins with Learning About Ourselves and Others!
Help me give my students the social studies books, masks, a Chanukah set, advent calendar and other learning materials they need to learn about themselves and others!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with 18, wonderful and inquisitive pre-kindergarten students in a very diverse school in Brooklyn, New York. We have children from many different cultures in our class and children with many special abilities.
My pre-k students love to learn new things daily!
For many of these children, it is their first year in school. They are learning about themselves, others, school rules, routines, and many new concepts in various subjects! They have many opportunities to explore what kind of learners they are and learn concepts in many different ways!
My Project
Social Studies in an early childhood program centers around social emotional learning, learning about yourself, and others. For a child to be confident and gain empathy, it so important at an early age to teach children about themselves and how they are different and the same then others. Respecting yourself and others is the beginning of creating a peaceful society and becoming a good citizen.
My students need social studies and SEL books and materials to learn about themselves and others!
I am asking for books and learning toys about how people celebrate holidays around the world, understanding and discussing feelings, a photo album where we can share our family photos, and all about me art supplies. I am also asking for items related to a show I would like my class to present "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer." This includes reindeer antlers, santa hats, and masks we will decorate to wear in the performance. I picked Rudolph because it is an important story about loving yourself the way you are and not allowing others to bully you for being different. I would love for each of my students to take a copy of the book home to keep and read at home with their families.
