My Students
Have you ever finished the first book in a series only to anxiously await the next book to be published? My students love books that are part of a series, and they are constantly on the lookout for the next installment.
My students come from low income families, and books are not available in most of their homes.
The only books they read come from school, and unfortunately it's very challenging for our school library to keep up. When money is available for books, it is spent at the beginning of the school year, often before the sequels to the most popular series are available. When the library does get them the following year, there is a mad rush, and students often end up on waiting lists.
My Project
By obtaining these books, my students will be able to continue the journey of their favorite character's life. I have found that when students are hooked on books that are part of a series, they read much more than they would otherwise. Not only does this help my students' reading comprehension scores, it also provides them with an enjoyable hobby.
The fulfillment of this project means that books will be in the hands of students who need and desperately want them.
It will bring my students one step closer to being life-long readers.
