This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
'Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science.' These words spoken by Edwin Powell Hubble, The Nature of Science, 1954, perfectly depicts the need for science in schools today.
I teach at an underprivileged school in a high poverty area of California.
My students are second language learners who need real life hands on experiences to learn. For this reason, science is one area that is extremely difficult to learn from a textbook. With the use of a microscope I can bring science to life in my classroom and turn my students on to science that much more!
My Project
My students have shown a great interest and excitement for science this year! It has been such a joy to see them grow particularly in this area. I would love to have a microscope in the classroom to continue to grow and nurture their love for science. The microscope would also provide learning opportunities in others areas of curriculum such as writing. The second part of my project is to get a digital camera and printer to be able to share these new learning experiences with my students' families. As a teacher I see the importance of having parents involved in their children's education and I want to be able to share these experiences with them.
By continuing to give my students learning experiences they will grow and achieve like never before.
I know that with the help of generous individuals like yourself I can bring science to life in my classroom!
