My Project
As adults, we know that compassion comes from accepting multiple world views and acknowledging their importance. These books I am requesting for my high school students offer mulitple perspectives on life such as being a first generation college student, the importance of community, navigating deafness, being an ally, understanding the depth of trauma in a historical context, and learning about cultures other than our own. If a student already is living those experiences, exposure to these books can help them understand better what they are going through. If students have not lived these experiences, they can learn what others are going through/have been through, teaching them compassion and empathy. In turn, this will help make for a more tolerant generation ahead.
