This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a school, we are challenged to keep our outstanding status of Level 1+ in Chicago Public Schools in consecutive years. As a public school, we have been ranked number 13 according to Chicago magazine and many of the other rankings are gifted/magnet schools.

Many of our students are from lower-income families, but that does not mean they don't work to their full potential.

In my classroom, I have students from various backgrounds in both culture and education.

Our school may not have an abundance of resources, but we are able to make many miracles happen.

My Project

Throughout the school year, the students use a basal and a novel in our reading curriculum. The basal provides the students with short readings in both non-fiction and fiction. The novel has always been up to the teacher's discretion and I would like to share this wonderful story with my students this year. This story has been produced into a film as well, and this will provide the students with a different version of the same story. The students will be able to compare and contrast the film to the novel.

Reading through a different point of view, the students will be able to gain a deeper passion for reading.

I believe the students will be able to challenge themselves with the depth of this novel and its theme. This journey will be one that will provide its challenges to the students and the teacher, but together we will progress forward.
