Learning in our class includes not only the usual reading and writing, but also projected documents, images, and video clips. These things require that my students can clearly see the materials presented.
Our school sits on the border of three neighborhoods, and our students come from all over the borough to take part in our arts programs.
The children in my classroom are amazing young people--attentive, inquisitive, and outgoing. They are a diverse group with a hunger for learning about the world.
My Project
Unfortunately, every year it is obvious that not everyone can see across the classroom. There are students who frequently move up to the front of the classroom to copy notes and homework and who sit on the floor up front to watch video clips. These students can benefit from an eye exam and glasses to aid their vision. This tremendous opportunity will aid students who may not otherwise have the chance.
Donations to this project will give sixty students the opportunity to have their vision checked and receive glasses if needed.
Even with insurance coverage that some parents may have, glasses are not only a monetary expense but one of time also. Vision screenings during the school day and donated glasses will take that onus off of parents. It will change the lives of students, giving them the ability to see the classroom board, to see the world, and to see the future.
