This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We need read aloud books that reflect who my students are. My students are from many countries. As newcomers they are brandnew to this country and just begining to learn English. Their stories and histories are rich and beautiful. Their identities are shifting and complex. Historically, they have not been valued.

My students deserve books that value who they are and what they bring to the world.

I have carefully chosen read aloud books that they will identify with, so they will feel seen and appreciated. Reading these books will provide a natural starting point for them to begin to share their stories, culture and identity. These books will improve engagement, increase their desire to read and improve their self-confidence. Help my students to see themselves in the books we read.
