This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a second grade class made up of 25 unique students. Our school is located in the Hells Kitchen, NYC. My students know that they can always count on school being that constant in their lives.
We are super eager learners.
They are very eager readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians. They rip the library apart on a daily basis as they try and locate their next reading adventure. They are always excited to get their ideas down on paper regardless if its writing, social studies, or math. There are future scientists in this classroom who will be very successful dealing with electricity or out in the wilderness identify different animal adaptations. What can I say? We are great!
My Project
As we all know, it is important to give our students ample opportunities to read each day. Within my second grade classroom, I also find it important for my students to read about characters that they are similar to.
My readers need to be able to identify with the characters in their book bins.
When this project is funded, many different students of different reading abilities will be able to find similarities between themselves and characters in their books. This project will allow students of different backgrounds to find commonalities between themselves and the characters that they enjoy reading about. My students will be able to go on reading adventures with friends that are similar to them.
