Imagine having the best seat in the house--from any desk in the room! A document camera for our class will allow students to experience books, science experiments, art, and so much more in real-time, which will allow them to zoom in on their learning with much greater clarity!
My students are an enthusiastic group of first graders that thrive on seeing, touching, transforming, and exploring.
They yearn to see the minuscule pictures of a chapter book, eager to see if their predictions were true! They squeal with delight when looking at messy experiments magnified onto the giant interactive whiteboard canvas. Turning your back to the class to write on the board or taking 24 turns at a time are never the best ways to maintain student attention.
My Project
A new document camera will help student learning leap off the page and into first grade minds. Students will see their work proudly shared with classmates. It will allow them to see modeling up close and personal, rather than crammed together around a small table. This camera will allow students to see through new eyes. Rather than squishing details and examples onto the whiteboard, they can zoom in on the details of things they wouldn't have noticed before. Reading will be improved as any book can become a "Big Book" and shared reading can take place with ease.
Having a document camera in class will enrich students' experiences across the subjects and open up new opportunities for technology use in, and out of, the classroom.
A document camera not only allows you to face students, it allows you to see students' faces glow with amazement as they interact with technology. They love to learn and this technology will enable them to experience information up close and personal, all at the same time!
It would allow students to act as the teacher through demonstrations and sharing their own work and thinking. Imagine engaging every sense while learning--that is what a document camera would allow students to experiences.
