Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a combination of ELL and Special Education learners who come from low-income homes. Half reside at the nearest shelter next to my school. In addition, my students have not been supplied with the basic necessities that will allow them to function efficiently at school and within the classroom, which include books, writing utensils, or even book bags. Although all my students come to school every day prepared to learn with a positive attitude and willingness to listen and cooperate, they sometimes feel as if they are being left out or not thought of because they don’t have the basic items to enhance their learning.

My Project

I teach grades 5 and 6 in which each grade is taught on their individual levels and subject areas. My students have access to and use computers in the classroom to support their learning. Some students require more use and some less. As a result, headphones are an important resource in our room. The use of computers in our classroom is such a great resource that’s much needed and used. However, my headphones had been shared by other classes, who too share in using their computers as an extension of learning – especially for our ELL and students with disabilities. Because of this, my headphones have mostly become defunct or destroyed due to repeated use. I am in need of functional headphones for my classroom that will allow my students to access programs and lessons to enhance and support their educational experience.
