My students need 13 copies of "Seedfolks" by Paul Fleischman.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Moore's classroom raised $225
This project is fully funded
I teach charismatic 4th graders in a high-need community (read project housing). Last year, my class achieved significant gains in language art and mathematics. I expect the same from this class. Part of these gains have been realized by the culturally relevant pedagogical and engagement strategies our school is utilizing.
Our school nutritionist has sparked my students' interest in where and how food grows. I want to capitalize on their excitement by having our class read "Seedfolks" by Paul Fleischman. This text is ideal for my students because it is culturally relevant. I want them to learn through reading and writing how a community similar to theirs grew closer through a community garden.
If our classroom has a set of "Seedfolks" I will be able to utilize this text beyond teacher read aloud lessons. Student copies will enable me to meet with small groups to differentiate my instruction: I have readers who can read this text independently and others who will require more scaffolding. Additionally, students will be able to use their copy at home for writing activities.
You can make it possible for my students to have independent access to relevant literature. When literature is relevant, so too learning!
