My Project
The tools, irrigation equipment, and soil testing kit we request on DonorsChoose are vital for enhancing our 6th-grade students' learning at our school in Oahu, Hawaii. This project, an extension of Paul Fleischman's "Seedfolks," offers hands-on, experiential learning through gardening, bridging book knowledge with real-life experience.
Our project goals are twofold.
Firstly, we aim to deepen their understanding of "Seedfolks" by allowing students to cultivate crops like the characters in the book. We also foster teamwork and responsibility as they tend to their garden plots, instilling essential lessons in environmental stewardship and sustainability.
What sets our students apart is their boundless enthusiasm and curiosity. They're eager learners, and this gardening project provides a unique opportunity for them to forge a strong connection with the environment, acquire life skills, and excel academically. The project's culmination at the school's May graduation allows them to showcase their hard work and knowledge to the entire community, fostering a sense of unity within our 6th-grade cohort.
