This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an art teacher in a Chicago Public School with 1200 students in a building built for 500. We are bursting at the seams, but love our school. Most of our students are at or below the poverty level, and live some very challenging lives. My funds for 40 art classes are stretched very thin.
Most of the students that I teach will never have the opportunity to take a photography class, or be exposed to the unique and important qualities of this art form. This camera will provide students with opportunities to document their own experiences.
My students need a digital camera to bring our art classes into the 21st century with photography and computer art. This camera can potentially inspire the next Dorthea Lang. The students can document their experiences. They can even create digital animation! Imagine the statements they can make with this new medium!
Your generous donation will help my students see the world through a brand new lens. The potential to change their lives is limitless!
