My students need technology in the gym! Most kids are used to having technology at their fingertips to watch YouTube, sports highlights, or new dances. The TV, iPad, and Apple TV will fill this need.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the privilege of teaching P.E. to every student that walks through the doors of my school (we have over 580 students)! My students come to me from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Some of them have a yard or space to play in while others don't.
My students love to move, play games, and have fun.
I am able to build relationships with each student year after year which gives me the opportunity to watch them grow intellectually, emotionally, as well as physically.
With Hurricane Harvey came the displacement of many students which in turn made our school the most stable place for them. And in many cases, the only place for them to have the chance to play and have fun.
My Project
I have an average of 90 students in each 45 minute P.E. class with each class coming to P.E 4-5 times per week. I get to impact the lives of over 580 kids by instilling in them the importance of physical activity. As you can imagine, this can be difficult with so many students in 1 gym with a teacher and an aide.
I absolutely love this challenge and not only want to rise up to it, but surpass it!
This is where you can help. We can use the TV to watch and follow dances, famous sports shots, even some trick shots! The iPad will be great to video the students themselves as models for a skill or activity and with Apple TV, I will be able to show the entire class at once.
Our town was greatly impacted by Hurricane Harvey and many of my students and their families are still trying to recover from the storm. With the ability to incorporate technology into my P.E. class, I can give my students a sense of normalcy that has been lacking in their day to day life for over a year since Harvey.
Being able to create an environment that students want to be in, feel comfortable in, and most importantly, move and are physically active in is what I am striving for with this project. I appreciate all of you for taking the time to read about my ideas and especially those of you who take this opportunity to help me and my students! See, Watch, DO! Let's Bring Technology Into the Gym.
