Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work at a school on the southwest side of Chicago. I am so fortunate to work with amazing 2nd grade students and their families. A large number of my students are ESL students and come from low-income communities, and I want to provide as many helpful resources to my students as possible. As this school year is wrapping up, I am hoping to get resources both to help me finish this school year strong and to have a great start for next year!

My students have developed so much as readers throughout this school year and I am hoping to provide them with even more hands on phonics and reading resources to help their English language development and reading!

Hands on manipulatives like magnetic letters and picture cards help my students make connections between letters and letter sounds and are an especially helpful for students who are English Language Learners.

In addition to new phonics resources, I am also hoping to get a few other helpful tools for my classroom such as early finisher games, high-quality headphones, and organization pouches. In every class, there is a range of learners and it is incredibly beneficial to have effective early finisher activities for students that finish early. Games such as Kanoodle and the Fuzzies game are great games for my students to play if they finish work early because they help build students social skills and collaboration opportunities. Headphones are a constant need in my classroom as well as students need headphones to successfully engage in a variety of digital resources that we use daily.
