My Project
My nonverbal preschool students will learn to follow a picture schedule participate in sensory activities and have a opportunity for movement.
My preschool students will have multiple opportunities to participate in sensory activities.
As many people know, students that are on the Autism Spectrum tend to have more sensory issues than typical preschoolers. We work diligently to provide them with the opportunities to experience sensory centers that will help them work through their issues at their own pace.
Students will have an opportunity for indoor movement during cold or inclement weather. During the winter months it is difficult to get gym time as all of the school age students get their normal physical education class as well as recess after lunch in the gym. My students are so small and have special needs, they are not able to be in the gymnasium with bigger older kids so we have to have recess in our classroom. Although we do songs and dances, it would be nice for them to have some opportunity for much needed movement. The trampoline and sit and spin will help give them that opportunity.
In addition the picture schedules will allow me to provide each student with their own daily schedule that they can work through. It will also allow me to change their schedules as needed without having to create an entirely new schedule.
These are the things as a teacher of students with disabilities that we are not provided with, but that would be a huge help.
