See It, Learn It! Visual Supports for Little Learners!

My Students

My students are enrolled in the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) program which is a part of the Special Education Department. Each student has an education plan to outline their individual goals. My class is designed to help some of the smallest learners in our district achieve their social, emotional, individual, and academic goals. Some students in the ECSE program are nonverbal while others communicate through speech, sign language, and/or communication devices.

Each of my students is unique and spectacular in their own way!

My students learn through sensory activities, hands-on instruction, songs, and play. Their smiles and whimsical giggles let me know they are enjoying what they are learning. We spend each day focusing on meeting our learning goals and having fun while we do it!

My Project

Many students with disabilities rely upon visual supports rather than auditory supports. Visual supports are pictures (visuals) printed on paper or cardstock. Visuals provide help with communicating, give steps on how to do a task, provide a picture schedule, or show objects.

For my students, visual supports are important as they go throughout the school day.

Examples of visual supports that my students use are handwashing visuals, circle time learning visuals, and academic visuals such as math counting mats and letter matching sheets. We use visuals in every part of our day!
