My Students

It's that "aha!" moment. You can finally visualize and understand what you're learning. In an urban school district where immense obstacles are plentiful and materials scarce, my students need creative and challenging ways to make learning exciting.

In our school we strive to create an environment that emphasizes the importance of college.

We remind them every day that they are, in fact, college bound. Despite the challenges they face, our students are motivated and they come to us with their ideas and opinions. They always express that "doing" helps them learn better than sitting. They want to create what their learning about. Some write poetry or raps and others are talented at drawing what they are thinking. They are all unique and crave the opportunity to express it.

My Project

With the use of these posters, markers, and colored pencils, my students will be able to create and see more clearly what they are learning. They will be able to help each other learn by making visual representations of ecosystems, cells, gene sequences, etc. They will be able to analyze what they created and give visual presentations. In short, they will use their talents to learn important biology content and have fun while they do.

Biology is very complex.

There are so many aspects that are included in this vast science. It is also a state tested course. Each student must take a standardized test which is then used to rate how well our school is doing overall. It is important that we give our students the same opportunity to learn and succeed as their more affluent counterparts. These materials will help to give them that opportunity.
