Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need to share how smart they are. I teach a 5th/6th grade combo class of English Language Learners in an inner city Title 1 school. My students come from a high poverty neighborhood.
My students need more opportunities to explain their learning in writing and share their thinking with the class. Because my students are English Language Learners, they need to be exposed to as much language as possible, especially representations of their own language.
My students need easels, chart paper, and markers to document their learning that can be posted and shared in our classroom. As students present their work, their ideas will be documented permanently on chart papers to be posted. This will allow the students to have a representation that stays visible as they continue to practice and extend their learning.
Your help will allow my students not only develop their written skills, but it will also help boost the confidence and pride of my students in being able to see their own ideas shared with the class. By having their ideas posted as a reference piece, it will boost their confidence and encourage them to continue to come up with and offer new ideas. It will allow all my students to show how smart each one of them is.
