This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is filled with the joyful laughter and smiles of 8 amazing students. I have 6 boys and 2 girls, whom are second and third graders that are anything but ordinary. They have unique characteristics that make them one of a kind, which makes our classroom a fun and exciting learning space! My classroom is an autism class that focuses on the California State Standards.
In our classroom we encourage growth, respect, and adventure.
Every student shines in their own form!
My Project
These materials will be used during math instructional time. My students thrive on visual support and tangible items therefore having play money and ten-unit blocks to use during math instruction could help reinforce concepts drastically. The tangible money will help students reason through problems, ultimately strengthening their logical thinking skills. Additionally, the play money will allow students to have visual representation of quantities/value. My students will also use this money to begin understanding the value of money, and they can begin to learn money management skills.
The ten-unit blocks provide hands-on ways to learn place value, number concepts, operations, measurement, and much more!
They help students physically represent what they're learning so they can develop a deeper understanding of the meaning of each concept.
