My Project

My students attend an urban PK-8 elementary school. Students in our school visit the library once a week and they love to check out books. Many of my students have come to the US in the last couple of years from places such as Cuba, Russia, and Nepal. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. My school is one of the most diverse schools in our city. My students are amazing!

While I work to find books in the many different languages that my students speak and read, one section of our library that is alway popular with all the students is the graphic novel section.

Graphic novels, which may remind you of a comic book, have illustrations that support readers as they work to learn to read English. The books I have selected are on fun topics or have characters that the students are familiar with, and having more graphic novels would be a great way to provide support to these students who are working on learning to read in English.

Graphic novels provide students with a fun and engaging way to read. Many graphic novels can be found in popular series. Having these different series in my library will allow students to check out the various characters in their various novels. Students will love being able to take these books out of the library and read them.
