My Students
I teach first grade in a community where the students come from a variety of economic backgrounds with over 50% of them receiving free or reduced lunch. We are a school wide Title 1 school district in which we implement a Tier time to aid students in strengthening their academic weaknesses.
An important responsibility of an educator is to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for their students.
My students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. A positive, comforting experience will help set the tone for all of their future endeavors in education. My students are energetic and eager to learn. They engage in lessons that are fun, challenging and meaningful. They are working hard to build their foundation in education. These students who will shape our future, need educators who are committed to their student's success each day!
My Project
Due to recent events in our country, safety in schools has become a major concern. Our school is no exception to the rule.
Research has shown that violence and trauma in schools can affect students' overall health and well being as well as their educational outcomes.
Therefore, a child should feel safe in their environment in order to successfully learn. Although our classroom doors lock, the Barracuda scissor locks would enable us to further protect our students and staff by not allowing the hinges on the doors to open from outside intruders. It is a quick and inconspicuous device that will not draw attention to our classroom while in a lockdown situation.
We are asking to purchase these locks for our entire First grade classrooms. Many students and parents have been inquiring as to our emergency procedures to ensure safety. We would be proud to tell the students and their parents that we have the most secure and safe rooms for learning.
