Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an ESE (Special Education)/Reading teacher at a middle school in Miami. I teach and support students who have Emotional/Behavior Disorders and learning difficulties. My school is a Title I school, which means that about 99% of the students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch due to their low socioeconomic status. The school is in a high poverty neighborhood so many of my students come from families that struggle financially. As a result, my students endure more problems than average children, and these problems interfere with and hinder their learning.
My Project
A second screen will help me teach my students with disabilities on one screen while preparing for an activity on the next screen. If I were to have a second screen, I could see my students as well as what I am sharing on my screen. I would also be able to do paperwork that is needed for their educational plan while continuously sharing my screen. Using a double screen has so many benefits. A second screen will assist me with multi-tasking without interrupting students' education.
Seeing students also allows me to know if they are understanding the material, raising their hand to ask questions, distracted, or needing extra help.
Teachers use visual cues to check for understanding while delivering lessons. While sharing my screen with my students, I am not able to see their faces at the same time. Having two screens will allow me to present material and monitor the class at the same time. Students will be able to interact with one another. Having two screens will make their learning experience all the better and it is all worth it.
