I am currently a second grade teacher at a public school in Chicago. My students need additional tools that will help them to understand the big idea of place value.
Place value is important to primary children. It helps them to increase their number sense and truly understand what large numbers mean. Place value also sets the stage for more complicated math problems that involve borrowing and carrying numbers.
In the past years, my students have not had adequate exposure to the place value concept. I have used many lessons and have had students create their own place value tools. However, these required a great deal of teacher and student time to assemble them. They were also made on plain copy paper and therefore, were not very durable.
I want to start this year out right! I am asking for the donation of place value tools, one for each student as well as a demonstration tool for myself. I believe these tools will give my students the hands on experience they crave and a better understanding of place value. These tools will also save time and resources in the classroom so my students can be engaged and learning instead! These tools can be used year after year.
Please consider making this donation to our classroom. My students and I would greatly appreciate it.
