it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help young readers cozy up with a good book in a clean, comfortable space!
I teach 2nd grade to an amazing group of low-income students in California.
Though almost 90% of the students at our school receive free lunch, they are showing amazing growth and working very hard to learn each day. Last year, our school was excited to learn that we had some of the largest academic gains of any elementary school in the entire school district.
My Project
Though we have had a lot of success, we still have a very long way to go to give these students the excellent education they deserve! One of the elements missing in my classroom is a cozy, clean space for students to read on their own or with a partner. A new rug, some comfy pillows, and a vacuum are all we need to create our very own book nook!
These items will impact my students' motivation and learning.
Our reading rug would be much more inviting and students would not be distracted by dirt or tears in the carpet. Students' health would also benefit from having a vacuum, because we could keep the rug area dust free.
