My Project
My Students
My second graders are curious, caring, and ready to change the world.
They love asking big questions and making connections between what they learn and how they live. They come from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, and many rely on our classroom as a space for exploration and discovery. They are eager to learn how they can help protect the planet—starting right here at school.
My Project
Our classroom is launching a unit on climate and the environment, and we want to dive into hands-on, meaningful learning that helps students understand how their actions impact the Earth.
To make this possible, we are requesting:
Read-aloud books and leveled readers focused on topics like the water cycle, recycling, biodiversity, and climate change (written for younger readers).
Seed starter kits and window planters to grow native plants and talk about pollinators, food production, and carbon absorption.
The Hands-on Science kits will make the abstract idea of "climate change" real and age-appropriate.
Students will:
-Practice reading with books that inspire environmental action.
-Collect data on weather and plant growth.
-Learn routines to reduce waste.
-Use art and writing to advocate for the environment.
-Experience how their small efforts—like composting or reusing—can have a big impact.
This project will give my second graders the tools to be scientists, artists, and environmental advocates. It will also help them develop the lifelong habits of responsibility and stewardship.
