Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are an inner-city school that is surrounded by high poverty, crime, and low economic status. Most of the students live in a single-family household.
We have a high population of African American and Hispanic students in our school.
The Hispanic students are struggling to learn English. They are considered English Language Learners (ELL) and require additional instruction to learn the basics. The students are always eager to learn, respect authority and place a high value on education.
My Project
My students are very active, inquisitive, and fun loving second graders. They come to school each day ready to learn new things and explore the world around them. However, keeping the classroom neat and tidy presents a problem.
My students need extra storage space for their school supplies.
The desks are relatively small and won't hold all of the notebooks, textbooks, and other supplies. Currently, the students' math and science books are on a small table in the rear of the classroom. The books are often not stacked neatly on the table and it causes clutter.
During math and science time, the books must be passed out to the students. Passing out books consumes instructional time. It would be much easier for the students to have the books in a seat sack on the back of their chair.
Seat sacks would make life so much easier for everyone.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
