Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are such special kids. This grade in particular has a very hyperactive personality and so anything that engages them physically helps the lessons to go smoothly. They love to share stories about their families and friends and they are truly kind and working hard to be respectful to those around them each day.
My students are a passionate, funny, creative and need to be moving all of the time!
They work hard to do their best and are lucky enough to have a great support system at home to help them to do well in school and out of school.
My students work together as a team and are working on taking the lead in small groups and making goals for themselves to learn more and more each day.
My Project
Students in todays elementary general education classrooms are on many different levels of learning. By having the materials such as dot dice, numbered dice, counters and geo boards to practice and learn the methods in a variety of ways helps them to master the core curriculum. I myself am a very kinesthetic learner and I can see when my students are as well. That is what the math manipulative is meant to do, give kids the hands on experience to solve equations and challenge themselves. Rather than just looking at shapes on a paper, when using the for words they experience building the shape based on what they know. This same tool is later used in fractions as well as multiplication arrays, and even graphing. They play games and practice with he materials and do not realize that the game is actually making the strategy concrete for them.
Headphones are another vital tool in our students learning while they are working on math programs using the provided technology.
The math program customizes a student's learning so that they are working on their level, whether that be above or below grade level.
