Second Graders Love to Read Chapter Books!

Help me give my students chapter books and math manipulatives to increase their skill levels!

My Project

Teaching 2nd graders is a complete joy! The main goal of this pivotal year is to read to understand. Students love, love, love to read more challenging (and bigger) books as their reading skills improve. In fact, my students have asked for specific books that I have chosen. This is why I would like to increase the number of chapter books in my classroom library. Throughout the school year, my students have continued to ask for different types of books and I want nothing more than to encourage their life-long love of reading. I have chosen many chapter books that I think my students will enjoy.

In addition to books, I would also like to have whiteboards with lines for my students to practice their writing skills.

Being able to use the whiteboards will enable my students to communicate more effectively. It will also serve allow me to take formative assessments while students are working on their writing skills.

Second graders have a hard time writing on whiteboards without lines!

Finally, classroom supplies wear out and breakdown over time. I have also included two pencil sharpeners to keep up with the demand of sharp writing instruments!

In conclusion, it would be wonderful to have the set of SEL emotions toys. This will give my students the opportunity to communicate their daily feelings and emotions. For DonorsChoose, I would hold up the 'happy' emotion and offer my thanks for giving teachers a way to finance items in their classrooms. This donation will enable me to help my students become better readers and writers.
