My Students
This section asks to describe what makes my students special and I don't even know where to begin! My students come from a variety of different backgrounds. Some are newcomers from the Middle East, while some come from families where generations have attended the very school they are at now. I make sure to do everything possible to send my students out into the world as compassionate, tolerant individuals. The neighborhood I teach in is high poverty, but our school really tries to level the playing field for all students.
Each of my students is passionate about a number of different things and, as a teacher, I try to find ways to ignite that passion.
Not all of my students are excellent at math or reading, but they might love sports or technology. As a class, we enjoy coming up with ways to incorporate a little bit of ourselves into what we are learning.
My Project
The materials requested in this project will allow me to teach different STEM projects throughout the year. The LEGO materials can be used to complete LEGO League Challenges in which students are asked to design and engineer different buildings, etc. The motors and solar panels can be used to create robots and solutions to every day problems that students will be asked to come up with.
STEM curriculum is constantly changing thanks to new ideas and creative teaching.
Jobs in STEM related fields are on the rise and getting students interested in STEM at a young age is more important now than ever.
