I am so excited to start the year in new and exciting ways that are safe for students and teachers.
All students are different and the teachers and I work hard to meet the needs of every learner in our building. We are striving to support independent learners and thinkers.
We are a Title I school and have a high population of students who receive free or reduced-price lunches.
My Project
This summer I was trained to deliver reading lessons in small groups by targeting strategies that each student needs. I learned more about the science of reading and how to use orthographic mapping to teach students how to decode. I want to be able to give them hands-on activities they can use during our intentional groupings. They need to develop the foundational skills to become readers.
I want to support a classroom community that creates a love for reading.
Using the stand-up CVC chips, second graders can create a word by placing three tiles together when segmenting and blending sounds. The decodable readers, Bob Books and Hooked on Phonics sets will help students feel success while reading engaging books. The word ladders will help students connect words to meaning.
