Seats that Move Minds: Creating Dynamic Spaces for Student Success

Help me give my students flexible seating. Flexible seating is designed to support first graders’ natural need to move by providing seating options that allow for gentle motion and frequent position changes, helping them stay focused.

My Project

In our first-grade classroom, flexible seating will be used to create a more engaging, student-centered learning environment that supports various learning styles and encourages collaboration. By incorporating options such as wobble stools, floor cushions, bean bags, and standing desks, students will have the freedom to choose seating that best suits their comfort and focus needs. This approach promotes movement, fosters independence, and helps students take ownership of their learning. Flexible seating also encourages small group interaction, peer collaboration, and more effective classroom management by providing a structure that supports both quiet, individual work and active, cooperative learning.
